Through this exhibition we present a year 1 BA Fashion Design project which considers the consumption and use of clothing as a key component in the creative design and make process. Students reflect their own consumption practices (buying, using/not using clothing) by studying their wardrobes and the clothes that they wear.
By engaging in this study, students are able to consider what they value in terms of dress/style/function/comfort and assess these in relation to the physical properties of the clothing, their personal style, and the embodied experience of wearing clothes.
Systems of value here relate to issues of over consumption, waste, and thus sustainability, but also aim to establish wearer confidence regarding their own creativity in clothing choices outside of the fashion system.
This project therefore considers revisiting, reflecting, revising, reworking all as systems of personal fashion empowerment.
