Almost 1 million people in the UK have been diagnosed with dementia, with the majority due to Alzheimer's Disease. It is widely known that age is an important risk factor and there is also evidence for genetic links, but increasing evidence points to 'environmental' factors that can influence the risk of dementia. A recent study shows that 45% of dementia cases are due to modifiable risk factors, for example our diet or level of exercise. Many of these modifiable lifestyle choices involve activation of our immune system. Raising awareness of our life-style choices during the different stages of our lives, may contribute to a healthier communities and healthier brains. Our activity involves a giant 'snakes and ladders' game, where players will learn about lifestyle choices that prevent (ladder) or increase (snake) the risk of dementia and how small changes may lead to improved brain health.
